Ruby James is a SIX YEAR OLD!

Our amazing Ruby-

She is so smart, so caring, so mature, so deep, so sweet, and so thoughtful.

birthday breakfast date with Daddy at Onyx

She had begged and waited SO PATIENTLY to get her ears pierced when she turned 6 and today was finally the day!
I wasn't sure how it would go because she had hardly gotten any sleep the night before (late church night and hello! birthday tomorrow!) and didn't take a nap so she was soooo sleepy. By the time we pulled into the parking lot of the mall to get her ears done she had fallen asleep in her seat. I thought "uh oh." Who wants to wake up and be groggy and out of it and then have needles shoved through their ears?

A very eager, expectant six year old, that's who:)

She was SO BRAVE, didn't tear up at all, smiled so big the moment it happened and beamed all day. I was/am so proud of her.

We were torn about letting her do this, seemed like such a big step away from little to big, but this girl...
she is so, so helpful. She does chores and school and takes care of things. She is ALWAYS helping me out in any way she can. Holds Violet when she's crying and I am cleaning up a mess from a toddler fit or grabbing something burning on the stove or whatever.
She changes Violet's diaper and gets her dressed when we're running out the door and I'm doing too many things to count.
Lays with Nora until she falls asleep for her naps and then sneaks out to stay up with me.

She's just such a huge helper. As I type this, she's cleaning up the house to earn getting to make a recipe she found in an Amelia Bedelia chapter book she's reading. (heart eyes!!!!!)

shopkins, of course. our one little fling with commercially popular toys...
We had our families over and John Robertson our dear friend came over and cooked dinner and made dessert for us- healthy and DELICIOUS! It was an all-around amazing day and we all had so much fun and most of all Ruby felt special and important, because she is.

HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY RUBY!!!!!
WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

Violet - Five Months

Violet, could you GET any more wonderful? Not rhetorical, literally asking.

size 3 diapers

SO HEAVY, haven't weighed her but let's just say in a cheer-leading stunt, she would be the base and not the flyer

must be teething this month because lot's of biting and gnawing and chewing and slobbering and fussiness. We understand, sissy, we've been there three times now and I get it! Hang in there.

looooooooves life

prefers to be entertained

is madly in love with me. and that makes me want to salsa dance! it's the greatest feeling to be the one that can get a crying baby to stop instantly just by holding her face against your chest and she knows it's you.

gets carried around by Ruby a lot and LOVES it. She looks at me like "oh hey mom. what? This is just us being us"

loves loves loves diaper changes. looks up at you with the flirtiest eyes and smile like "go ahead. i know this is the time. rub ALL over me and squeeze me and swoon over the sight of my barely-clothed body. go ahead, i'm used to it. and, well, i kind of love it. Ok I really love it!!"

Violet - Four Months

size 2 diapers

talks a lot

HAPPY

14ish pounds

loves her pacifier to fall asleep

loves when people dance for her

chews and sucks on her hands all day. looks like a chipmunk that found a stash of delicious nuts and is shoveling them in as fast as furious as possible while doing so. (making us all laugh, of course!)

sleeps smack dab in between mom and dad every night swaddled up nice and tight.

nurses 2-3 times at night? no idea, I'm half awake/half asleep when it happens anyway. I am certain she's getting enough calories though....(wink! #chunk)

we still all adore her, and assume we always will.
