Nora Says...

Me: "Nora, what's your husband's name going to be?"
Nora: "Peace"
M: "Peace? (surprised and pleased with such a deep thought from a barely 3 year old) That's so cool"

N: "yeah, like piece of toast"

I smiled and thought ah, there it is. There's our little Nora:):)

life lately - fall 2015

School is going great. Ruby is flying through her lessons but there's a good balance between challenging her enough, yet keeping her feeling confident in said lessons because they are at her understanding level. She's so smart and an excellent student.
She can certainly get distracted and chase rabbit trails and say "wait!" and draw hearts all around the page before she lets me start teaching the lesson of that page, but hey, that's Ruby and that's cool with me.
(However much it can test my patience!)

Ruby, 5 years and 8 months old

Nora's art - the cutest. This is she and her sisters.
Nora likes to wear as little clothes as possible these days, even though it is November.
She also wants her board-straight hair to be down and doesn't mind it a bit when it just hangs in her face.
Mommy, however, very much minds and I have to chase her down to get her hair pulled up and out of her face:)

Which is precisely what my mother had to do to me and my siblings. She hated hair in our face and now I'm on the other side and totally get it!
Good thing her spunky personality and cuteness makes up for literally all things.

nora, 3 years and 3 months old

The first week or so of being on my own with the three kids I burnt approximately 70% of every snack I made for them.  I figured this needed to be documented:)

Violet at 4 weeks.
I can't really put into words how madly in love I am with this baby!

Our first time out without Kevin and we went to the Amazeum with our cousin, Margaret.
I lost Nora once. Workers with walkie-talkies found her about the same time I did. Thankfully it was a quiet, slow day and not too many people there and lots of workers watching for that very thing but still...
Left my purse on the floor and walked away. A worker had to remind me to probably grab it.
Nora had to poop, always fun wiping a toddler in a public restroom while wearing a baby. Plus my sister called at that moment and for some reason I answered? She's cool and let me go:)

All in all- we made it and it was fine but I may wait a wee bit longer until I start trying to go to play dates. Play dates at my house, please!

They have so much fun at this place, though- it's so wonderful!!

Speaking of wonderful...
4 weeks old

I loooooved being pregnant with her and getting to wear her is just as special.
Her face is cracking me up here!
"i take sleeping very seriously..."

Ever since I was little, I mean, all I've ever known is wanting to be a wife and a mom.
I LOVE who I'm married to (more so every day) and I LOVE motherhood just as much as I dreamed I would. I love looking back and seeing these 3 people in my rear view mirror.
I often find the goodness of my life overwhelming.
Not because it's perfect, but because God is. And He's alllll up in my life - I see Him everywhere. And I'm so so thankful.

Violet - One Month

Sister Sue is one month old!

-makes the sweetest frustrated faces. Like, a quick little wince of "I don't want to complain, but...gah, I just wish they would stand up and walk me around...ok, yeah..I'm going to have to just go for it and full on complain....waaaaaaah (real cry)" But you can always watch her have this thought process right before a crying spell.

-so far...sleep has been challenging! Some nights up for hours and hours. some nights sleeps a lot and only up once. Lately it's been awake and fussy till about 2:00am or 3:00am, falls asleep, and sleeps until I wake her up to nurse around 9:30 or 10am. I'll take what I can get. She and Daddy have watched several middle-of-the-night movies together:)

-nicknames include:
Violet Violet Pumpkin Pie-let
and Violet the Pilot
Less nicknames and more songs - maybe because we have older girls now and every thing's a teaching point?
"V-I-O L-E-T Violet is the girl for me!"
and
"Violet, Violet Amelia, the sweetest little cutie/sissy/darlin in the whole wide world, oh Violet! Violet Amelia..." repeat
are the two we all sing to her all the time around here

-still smells like heaven

-LOVES mama, just hit the "hold me all the time please" stage. This time around, I'm letting laundry and cooking and clients wait and I'm just being there for her and holding her. I so regret rushing Nora. Rushing to get on with life and not honoring her newborn stage where she just. needed. mama.

-nurses like a champ, just like her sisters. I'm so grateful for this!

-in size 1 diapers and is plumping up QUITE nicely.
-wakes up in the morning around 9:00ish, diaper change, nurses, stays awake for maybe 15 mins and then falls back asleep for her long morning nap. That's consistent - after that, it's kind of sporadic sleep times. With Nora's nap and Violet's napping...we pretty much stay home all day right now.

Bringing her into our family feels just like the others - like I can't imagine things without her. Like all is right in the world. Like new challenges are to be faced but so is new growth and new depths of love and joy.
We love you, little one-monther!
