SHE'S ONE!!!

I absolutely cannot believe it. As we celebrated our baby's first year, I looked at her at her party and it just hit me.
She's not a baby anymore.
She is one.
She can walk.
She can express herself.
She can tell me what she likes and doesn't like.
And...she's gorgeous.

Happy Birthday, sweet Ruby James.
We love you so, so much!
Ya big ONE YEAR OLD!

Ruby's First Valentine

I woke up Valentines Day morning to this on our chalkboard:

SO SWEET, Daddy. And so romantic:)

THEN our little romancer came home from work with a Valentine for Ruby!

Thank you Daddy! Kissing her Valentine...

*gasp* I love it!

Momma's Thoughts

I am currently really wanting chickens for the backyard. Like, two of them and that's all! Kevin says no. But I am not at all giving up hope. A lot of times your husband says no and he means not now.

I have a big blank wall going on in my house with unmatching couches still and it bugs me on an almost daily basis. But the shelving for that blank spot is so pricey...so it lessens the need to fill the spot so quickly.

I have started running again and I feel amazing. There are certainly pros and cons. Pros being quite obvious, cons being that it kind of stinks in the mornings I have to choose to either get make up on and get dressed (which equals no exercise) or stay kinda grungy (and I will exercise) so I'm healthier but yuckier smelling/looking. You'd think the running and working out would give me cause to eat healthier but I'm telling you...sugar is a drug habit that I am trying so hard to quit. And I'm not quite there yet but I'm closer than I was before.

Roobster and I went to Hobby Lobby the other day to get some little decorations for her 1st birthday party. I couldn't believe I was there doing that.

Kevin has been working SO much lately and is gone so much. He works so early in the morning at UPS, then at church all day long, and then usually has some sort of practice, meeting, or lesson in the evenings. Big bummer. There's been several days he just doesn't see Ruby at all. Not ok when you work in town. But I know there's a middle ground to it all, there's a response and a position that I need to take, and I'm pressing into Holy Spirit for the answer.

I found a hair in my ice cream tonight (again...sugar addiction. Reese's PB cup homemade ice cream. Just me, the spoon, and the tub...BAD) and of course I wanted to keep eating but I didn't want to get up to throw it away. So I looked at the strand of hair with cream all over it, looked around, and at my feet was Clarence. I tossed it into his fluffy white hair and a big smile came over my face. A smile of appreciation for that little stinker. Any dog who is there for you like that, to hide your hairy ice cream in his fur for you and not complain...is a dog worth keeping.

We've started rocking/nursing Ruby just a short little bit and then just kissing her and saying goodnight and laying her down and she falls asleep in there on her own. It's wonderful! She cries for a few minutes but that's it, and then she's out. So sweet. I love when things just fall into place and work.

We might actually get money back from our taxes this year! I cannot believe it. We have always always had to pay in...and a lot. But because I only worked half of the year this year and because we had a baby we will probably get money back! Hallelujah! I will now have a baby every year, thanks to this perk.

Goodnight. I get to shower and shave now.

Nudity Jones

The other morning Kevin went in to get Ruby from her crib and saw that she had done some re-styling of her own wardrobe.

Ha! As Doug Heffernan from King Of Queens would say: "cause sexay is SEXAY!

This goes right up there with the time he walked in and she had ripped her own diaper off at some point in the night/morning. It's common sense, really. When you get bored - get naked.

Haircuts and Bathtime

As you can see from the last post...I chose to take my blog off the internet to where others can read it. I have just been convicted to keep this as a scrapbook for our family only, and not try to entertain others with it. Because then it becomes a distraction from my family, my job as a wife and a mom, because I am so into entertaining all these people, at the expense of my family. Once I found myself bringing my camera to things so I could get good pictures that would have a good story to tell everyone else on my blog...I knew it was time to pull the plug. I'm not doing this for them. I'm doing it for us, our little Kiehn family.  So we can all look back at these books together and laugh and cry, for generations.

So on with the family book! Here's our recent updates:

Our little Jamesie had her FIRST HAIRCUT! A little trim of her bangs and long random pieces to clean her up. She sat still and looks even more beautiful than ever.

The other night we went to the High's house and we threw the girls in the tub together. So stinkin cute! Ruby was squealing and screaming with delight. And Elle was cool as a cucumber, as usual.

I love babies, period. But babies in a tub just makes it ten times better.

Ruby is growing and changing so much. Just today I noticed that she's choosing to walk more than she has since she started walking.
She very purposefully disobeyed me the other night at dinner and when I swatted her hand - she laughed. Sooooo sad! She is 11 months old. Let's just say I nipped that in the bud. We will not have a brat on our hands. And she is the farthest thing from that. I think 9 times out of 10 parents create a brat. So we just won't!

Stinker moment or not...she is still the funniest, sweetest, most kiss-giving baby girl around and I can't believe she's mine. I'm putting her 1st birthday details in my head and on scraps of paper and can't believe we're here already. Amazing.

RUBY IS DOING SOMETHING AWESOME!

In the greatest news ever....
RUBY STARTED WALKING!!!!!!!

I wish, more than anything, I could upload the video on here, but it won't let me bc it's too big and I have no earthly idea how to work things like that. I've tried everything. Anyways...yep! Walking. Yesterday, out of nowhere. And so, so cute while doing so.

I have major cabin fever. I haven't left this house ONCE since Sunday.
And it's supposed to snow again tomorrow night again.
NOOOO!!!
I just want to see other life, and sit in a moving car, and look at something other than my living room!

Since a few of you asked, you can find tutorials for the following by clicking on it.

Silk flowers

Snow Day

Yesterday was a lazy, snowed in day and I got some things done I haven't had time to do in forever (like crafts!)

Made all these flowers for Ruby girl and her headbands...

My friend Kari said I need to put up a pic of this chalkboard I made, so here it is. We write whatever inspires us, whatever God has been speaking to us on lately, or funny things on this board.
Just took an old piece of big artwork that my Mom was tossing out (it was a copy of a painting of a cottage in the woods or something, nothing special. But I loved the frame, so I spray painted that and then painted chalkboard paint over the glass. Voila!)

Then, I made this necklace. I absolutely love it, but it took forever! I think it was worth it though. Fun to have something you can wear that you made.

I made PW's Marlboro Man Sandwhiches. I've never cooked with Sherry before (that's what these mushrooms are being cooked in). Gave it such a good flavor. They have cooking Sherry in the vinegar aisle at Walmart, who knew?!

And the day was also filled with lots of these two.

Ok, Grumpy Jessica Is Over

Alright, thanks for letting me vent.

I am happy and glad and moving on. Once I get the house decorated and stuff on the walls, etc. I think we will really really like this sectional. Especially when it's all one color:) But really, it's totally growing on us.

I leave you on this snowy day with some pictures from last Friday, a beautiful, warm upper 60's day. Saturday we had the most beautiful spring weather in the dead of winter. It was like Yahweh's way of saying "keep going! Beauty and warmth and light is just around the corner!"

And I give you, what I would say, are three of the greatest photographs on earth.

There is absolutely no editing done in these hair pics...soo funny!

*swoon*
Sometimes Daddy kisses me and squeezes me this hard too, sugar. Hang in there. He just loves us a lot.

Oh Dear

Well, we got the sectional.
It's a catastrophe.

We had 2 options:

1. Buy a higher-quality, expensive one for $1,000 (ouch) and not get it for 5-7 weeks

2. Buy a not-as-nice-but-will-do one for $500 and get it the next day.

We chose option number 2 and are kicking ourselves.

First off, it quite obviously doesn't match. It comes in 2 pieces, and to save money we picked it up and loaded it and moved it ourselves. We finally got it in the room, took off the tarps, and realized they were two different colors. Lovely.
This particular couch is discontinued and they only have one piece left at the store, so hopefully it's the matching piece, the one we need. (The color on the left is the one we want)

Then today, Kev sat down on the couch (plopped, more like it, but certainly not very hard) and we hear a crack. The frame broke from him sitting on it. So now the couch dips in one spot and squeaks when you move on it. And the receipt of the couch says "clearance/discontinued items as is/no returns". And this is the side of the couch that was correct and that we're keeping.

I could very easily freak out right now.
I wish this all would have panned out a little simpler.
I think I am just tired. I was like deliriously laughing/crying when it broke because I'd had enough of the whole couch thing.

So, with the cleaning product warranty thing we paid a total of $620 something for a piece of crap.
That is so much money. And so much crap.

The Lesson Here Folks:
Being patient and investing in quality always always pays off.

Which is weird because we knew this already. I didn't think the quality difference was really that much.
I just wish I could take it back to the store and have our sweet little ole faithful couch back!
