Sunday

Not much going on around here.

Ruby had another wild hair night.

We got an area rug (we've never been able to have one since we quickly realized it was Albert's favorite potty spot.) And the area rug is to go with something we got this weekend!
Oh, and here's what I wore to church today. I am doing this for the sole purpose that when I look back at this I want to see what I was wearing and how I wore my hair in 2011. And hear my kids say "oh my gosh, Mom, look at your dress!"

Ok, so I'll just tell you what we got this weeked. A sectional! What I have been talking about pretty much every other day since we went to the High's house and I fell in love with all the seating but in one piece. We get it tomorrow! I'm a little nervous because Kevin has nobody helping him bring it home from the furniture store.

Jessica: "How are you going to get it out of the truck?"
Kevin: "oh, I can do it"

So if you drive by our house tomorrow and see my determined husband lifting a sectional couch out of a truck by himself, please stop and help.

(p.s. I'm going to help him, of course!)

11 months

Well, my sweetheart it's January 28th and you are 11 months old today. A year ago today, I had had 2 wonderful baby showers, your room was painted, decorated, stocked, and ready. I was all of those things, too. I only had one month till I got to birth you and see you.

You have 5 teeth. Two bottom, 2 tops, 2 sides of tops. You love to scrunch your nose, which lifts your upper lip, so you can show off those new top teeth as often as possible.

You have the whispiest, stringy little loooong bangs and Daddy will not let me cut them. I asked him last night "would you be devastated if you came home yesterday and Ruby's bangs were cut?" and he said "yes." So if you look back at your baby pics as a teen and ask why the hilarious bangs....ask Dad. If you look back and think it was so cute, well, then, that's both of our doing. We both decided to keep them:)

You absolutely love bath time. I read somewhere "How to raise kids....when they are upset - put them in water" and it couldn't be more true.

We are weaning you off your little sassa. Which is not hard, because you really have never been obsessed. Just if it's around, you'll take it, if it's not, no big deal. But it's definitely a must at nap time and night time!

You have no "thing" you must have at all times. Like a lot of babies have a blankie or a bunny or whatever. Just Mom and what I have to offer:).

You eat what we eat. And if not that, you love the Earth's Best Organic baby food. I love it, because it's organic and easy.

As of now, you take a long 3 hour nap in the late morning/into afternoon. Then you take another 1-2ish hour nap in the evening around 4 or 5:00...it's wonderful! Then back down for the whole night at 8:00ish.

You are still breastfeeding regularly and love it. Of course not as much as you used to, but often and steady. Still one of my favorite parts about motherhood.

You love Clarence. You let him lick you (yuck. I try to stop him, honey, but you egg him on!) and you pull his fur out while he yelps. But then he just forgives you and licks you while you look at the clump of hair in your chubby hands.

You are the light of our lives, our little comedian, our best friend, and our entertainment.
Happy 11 months, sugar booger.

Oh, Summer....I have missed you!

The Power Of Words

This was done in the time it took me to brush my teeth.

These days, I keep accidently referring to Ruby as "wild woman" and I've got to stop!

You see, I believe that words are seeds. You reap what you sow. You plant a carrot seed, you're going to get a carrot. You plant an apple seed, you're going to get an apple tree. You plant a positive word, you're going to reap something positive. You sow a word of "you are wild" you're going to get wildness.

This revelation is quite grand once you grasp it. Everything you say has power behind it, whether you realize it or not. What you say can make or break a situation. Can you think of a time where someone has said something, even in passing, that meant the world to you? And another situation where someone said something that broke your heart and tore you down? It's more than just words. It's the spirit behind the words. When we gripe and complain, we are empowering a negative spirit that just breeds more negativity. And when we choose beautiful, positive words, we empower the Holy Spirit to work on our behalf.

You won't hear me say the common phrases people say all the time like "I'm going crazy" or "that kills me" or even "I'm so dumb" or "I'm a retard", because I don't want to be any of those things! Sure, there is the argument "well I don't really mean that". Then why say it?

So, I don't want my little Ruby girl to be wild when she grows up. I want her to be free spirited, comfortable in her own skin, confident in who she is, submitted to her parents and have our heart, and to be strong and bold with a gentleness about her. And preferably funny.
Just not wild:)

Time To Tone

Day 2 of Jillian Michaels.
I half hate her, half love her, I can't quite figure it out.

Either way, I have only done it twice and the first time I was more sore than I thought possible. I felt like someone had beat me up. (I am very out of shape)
And tonight when I did it, I feel great, like nice and tight. I'll be toned like Jill in no time! Right?

Kevin did it with me tonight and I just wanted to drop my weights and run over and hug him. I looooove when he does stuff like that with me. I hope he sticks with it, I think he will.
Every person I have ever spoken to that has done this video has lost weight, it's crazy. Every single one!
Not trying to lose weight, but it would be nice to jiggle less.

True story: We jump and dance and have a big time at our church during worship. Seriously, we are all about let yourself go and just enjoy. Of course, not everyone does this, but the majority of us are up front dancing our hearts out while we worship our King. One time we all broke into a conga line during worship, haha I'm not kidding. We were singing about being free and not caring what people thought about anymore.
**side note** I am a big believer in dancing. It breaks through all barriers of guarding yourself and worrying what people will think. It sets you free when you just embrace it. This is why wedding receptions when everyone is dancing is SO fun! People are just letting go and enjoying life! (and hopefully not drunk while doing so)

Anyways. So since I do let go and boogie at church, you have to find Sunday clothes that coincide with that. One Sunday morning I tried on a kind of flowly simple dress and I joked around and went up to Kevin and said "is this modest?" and starting jumping.
He looked at me with a crazy face and says "what's that slapping noise?!"
I squawked back..."IT'S MY THIGHS!"

And that, my friends, is how I know it's time to tone.

Ruby James and Elle Louise

We had an impromptu hang out with our buddies, the Highs, last night and Ruby and her best bud got to hang out. As always...it was darling.

Ruby wore a disposable diaper, chewed on someone else's sass, and Kari Beth (Elle's mom) fed her cheesecake. It was a wild, wild night.

For Shannon

Look what I found.
From fifth grade.

And here is proof that she had it out for me since day one.
I mean, look at that face! She never even gave me a chance!
She had purposed from the beginning that I was her little room cleaner and a well body to bruise up, and scar.

...................................................................................................................................
Don't worry. We got it all out of our system.
Did we have a prank war when I was older where she put baby powder on the blades of my ceiling fan?
Yes.
Did I put strawberry jelly under the door handle of her car?
Yes.
Do we love each other dearly now and talk as often as we can and share mom stories and tips and advice and encourage one another and laugh?
Yes.

Thank you Lord, for sisters. Especially mine.

Good morning, Bed Head!

No Cute Ruby, Just Boring Me

Congratulations to my friend Leslie, who is pregnant with Baby #3 and just found out it's another BOY! Three boys, how darling. I'm so excited for them and their used-to-be-but-not-so-much-anymore little family.

So I am starting to watch my caloric intake (obviously adding the 600 calories to my daily number due to nursing...hallelujah) and going to do the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I've heard a lot of good about it. I've never done home workout videos, I personally think they suck. Standing in one place, staring at a screen and doing what they do...that's a workout? I want to get outside and RUN!
But I can't.
It's so cold out.
And Ruby hates her jogging stroller and it's hard to run pushing a clunky extra 26 lbs.
And I really don't feel safe in my neighborhood anymore, to be honest.
So I'm limited to this, but it seems legit. I mean, it's certainly going to burn more calories than what I do now, which is nothing.

................................................................................................................................................................................

The sweetest thing happened in the middle of the night last night. I was laying in bed and across the house (and in the monitor) I heard Ruby wake up and start crying. I was exhausted and thought "Oh no sweetie, not now, please. Please soothe yourself back to sleep". And she didn't. So in my half asleep half awake stupor I started shhhhing and whispering It's ok baby, shhhhh from my pillow. And she started calming and calming and slooowllly drifting back off to sleep. It was the coolest, sweetest picture of the bond between baby and momma. From across the house.

I just realized I told Leslie if it's a boy I'm taking her to Chik-fil-a breakfast and if it's a girl I'm throwing her a shower. So tomorrow is Chik-fil-a. HOW THE HECK DO YOU COUNT YOUR CALORIES AT CHIK-FIL-A?? What have I done?!
.....................................................................................................................................................................

It's January. The time of year that I am most torn. You see being pale is hideous and unattractive. But tanning beds literally sicken me.
If I had my own I'd be more ok with it. They even have like "healthy" tanning beds to help you get lots of Vitamin D and everything.

So here's my disgust with tanning beds:
Think of your greatest enemy. Or someone you find repulsive.
( I know this might be wrong, but just go with it for the sake of my theory)
A feminine male? A terrible mean mom? An obese, oily, smoker?
Now imagine them laying in the exact same tanning bed that you are about to enter, laying there naked and sweating RIGHT where you are about to lay your naked body.

SICK!!!

So....there's my dilema. Remember last year my dilema with spray tanning and that lady got on to me about not caring about my baby and only about my looks? Haha! Oh geez.

...........................................................................................................................................................................

Pardon the rather pointless post. I wanted to post but this is all I had to say. At least I copied Meg and broke it up with pretty colored dotted lines this time:)

A Tutorial, By Ruby

How to stand, for babies.

Start off by cuddling with your puppy for moral support, and to get you in a thankful, I-can-do-anything mood.

Rise up to standing position, like this. You'll be really happy and shocked you did so well, and it will feel so cool you'll want to squeal. Don't hold back! Squeal! I always do.

Next, look to your parents, friends, loved ones - whoever is in the room with you, and seek an applause. Clap your own hands to show them what you're looking for and to get the party started.

Keep squealing and clapping.

Once the cheering has died down, bring your arms to a steady position for balance, and slowly squat yourself back down to a seated position.

Go back to your puppy, sigh, and think to yourself...standing is awesome.

Bath Girl, Living Room, What I Wore

Ruby LOVES bath time.
And I LOVE taking pictures of her during said time.

One of my clients is an awesome interior designer/hostess with the mostest, etc. and when she came over for her appointment today I mentioned our living room/furniture/how things would work and fit in there and I could see it all over her face.
We went in the house and started moving this here, that there envisioning things. Still can't decide on that sectional...
But anyways, the room is like this temporarily and I surprisingly (to me) LOVE it. Since we have a smaller home, I've always tried to make as much space as possible, i.e. I am NOT a clutter person. I like simple and clean. But my problem was that I shoved all the furniture up against walls because I thought that's all I could do with the space. WRONG!
She showed me that my living room really isn't that small and there are many options.
I loooove rearranging furniture! It's like you get a new house, a new outlook. I love it!

And lastly, we've all seen What I Wore Wednesday. Thought I might try it. We'll see how long that lasts. I really really really don't like fashion blogs, so don't worry...this will not turn into that.

Jacket-Forever21 6 years ago, dress-Forever21 5 or 6 years ago, Skinny Jeans-Forever 21, Flats-Aldo

Yes, I shop at other stores than Forever21. I just didn't 5 or 6 years ago:)

So how's that for another random post for ya?

Be blessed.

p.s. I really wish I would have flipped this post around, like from least important to most, instead of the other way around. Perhaps you could scroll up and look at my sweetheart in the nude having the time of her life as your last memory of this post??

This and That

*When I was in 5th grade, my friend Stephanie Duncan and I started a business called "This and That". We made personalized name tags and things like that. That just reminded me of that. Years and years later, I'm still using that awesome phrase. I guess my brain likes it, to keep it and reuse it.

I have nothing much to say, but will write some of the happenings around here/thoughts in my head.

Tonight a magical thing happened...I folded a load of laundry and every sock had a matching pair. There were none left over. It was wonderful!

We went to lunch with our friends that have twin boys Ruby's age. Ruby threw up (she hasn't been feeling well to begin with and then choked on a green bean...so sad) Anyways it was A LOT of throw up and like went down into her boots and down her tights and dress and everything. So the momma of the boys lent us a pair of boy dinosaur + monkey pajamas they had with them and it was HILARIOUS to see Ruby as a boy. Wish I got a picture. We called her Rueben for the afternoon.

I bought almond butter tonight because I've heard nothing but good about it. It's not that great, I don't see why everyone loves it so much. And it's expensive!

It's snowing here and I'm worried about Sammy. (Remember, the cat I was torn about taking care of last year in January? Still feeding/caring for her)

We discovered that the robbers also took a laundry basket of ours. We used to have 3 that we very much utilized and now we only have two. We think they took it to put all the stuff in. This is not a store where you grab a basket and take what you like, p.s.

Ruby is getting a top left tooth.

I want a sectional couch so bad because we literally don't have some people over sometimes because we don't have enough seating for the after dinner hang out and talk. And that stinks! Our options are:
1) All four people sit on the one couch together like a team on a bench
2) Let our guests sit on the couch while we sit on the hardwood floor for 2-4 hours. Unfun.
Anyone out there have a sectional? What are your thoughts?

We started using Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap in Peppermint and it's one of my favorite purchases, period. Every shower is like a tingly, refreshing pat on the back. Or whatever you wash with it. And we've had it for a month and together have used about 1/4 of it. I love that.

Speaking of showers, oh my soul. Do you guys have one of these?
It is, hands down, the best $2 you'll ever spend. Our drain used to get clogged all the time (you really don't realize how much hair you lose) and we got this and...oh! It's wonderful! Get one!

I want to paint our bedroom the same color as the living room, but we'll get there eventually.

That is all that is running through my head. Well, certainly not all, but you know what I mean.
Have a good night :)

The Love List

The other night, before I laid my head down to rest, I stopped and wrote a list. I don't know why I did, but I thought "I'm going to make a list of all the reasons I love Kevin"

And he was asleep when I did it. And the whole time I wrote I was smiling from ear to ear, looking over at him fast asleep every few lines, my heart fluttering with first-few-dates type of feelings for my husband.

I told him about it the next day and he wanted to make one for me. (See, this list thing is so cool).
The list did the same thing for him, made him start crushing on me all over again.

And it hit me. Anytime I am frustrated. Stressed from motherhood. Overwhelmed with housework. Bothered by hecticness of working out of my house. Annoyed with Clarence. I will write a list.
A list of all the reasons I love motherhood, my house, my faithful clients, our sweet puppy.
It's amazing how speaking beautiful, edifying words will change a situation like that.

I have no idea where the list idea came from. More than likely the Holy Spirit in me, because that's where all good ideas come from. Either way...I highly suggest it.

Have Fun!

Thursday

Today has been a great day.
Our friends, Stephanie and Sarah, brought me and Ruby lunch from Chik-fil-a and our friends Becca and her baby Luca got to come too! They all came at Ruby's nap time and she was asleep for probably 15 minutes when she heard us eating and having a gay old time. She woke up and realized "I am missing out on awesomeness. This isn't the time to sleep!"

So she cried until I went and got her so she could party with the rest of us. She was smiling from ear to ear when she came out and saw all the girls, and of course, was a ham for our guests.

Then, we went to Target and got to spend a little Christmas money for Ruby girl. Grandpa Kiehn sent us Christmas money (which, unfortunately most all Christmas money went to replacing stolen items. JERKS!!) but he specifically wrote in a note "$50 of this is for Ruby...I don't care what you do with the rest of it." Haha! Be forced to spend money on darling Ruby things? GLADLY!

She is getting so big and smart, it's insane. I can't believe my baby! Today the battery fell out of the back of the TV remote and normally baby Ruby would flap her arms at it and/or put it straight in her mouth, but today she picked it up and tried putting it back in it's place in the back of the remote! I couldn't believe it. Her little brain is getting smarter and smarter. The whole time in Target she kept trying to stand in the sit-down area of the cart. I had to keep sitting her down and saying "no, Ruby." It's crazy! She used to just lay there. In her carrier. And look at the lights. She's so big!

I'm half sad, yes. But as of lately I've been so appreciative and excited about her changing, growing, and evolving. It's SO cool to see all the stages. I love motherhood!

My Clean Little Froggy

Better Late Than Never (2010 Recap)

A look back on 2010...

January- I started my maternity leave almost 2 months earlier than expected. I had a bit of a scare that we had to go to the hospital for, thinking I may have been leaking amniotic fluid. At 32 weeks. Not good. It wasn't, hallelujah, but they still highly recommended me taking it easy and getting off my feet and I was happy to comply.
Waiting for Kev to adjust the lighting for some belly shots...

February- A month of so many emotions. Sadness that my pregnancy was over. Then excitement to see our baby. Frustration because EVERYBODY told me I was going to have Ruby any day. Then I dilated and progressed, and...nothing. And then, at the very last day of that month, the day she told us she was going to be here...it happened. 8 lbs. 6 oz. 19 1/2 inches long. She was here. She is here. And it's wonderful.

March- A month of healing and tiredness. I had a rough time healing, I don't know why. That little chunk hurt to birth! I am believing by faith that was my hardest recovery and it will only get better with each baby. I spent this month falling in love with Ruby and adjusting to my new schedule.
I loved having a baby this time of year. March was still cold enough to spend indoors with my baby and not be missing out on a thing. Also, the month Kevin and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary.

April- My birthday. But nothing really matters birthday-wise when you have a 6 week old lovie. I cut all my hair off like all new Moms do.

May- My first Mother's Day. I am a Mom for the rest of my life. It's crazy!
We met our cousin Naftalie for the first time and got to see our next cousin, Thompson, in Aunt Shannon's belly. Also, we start remodeling our back room into a salon so I can work from home. Such a blessing!

June- Ruby keeps changing and changing. After a long battle, Kevin's Grandpa Loehmann went on to dwell with Yahweh for eternity. We love you Grandpa! You'd be so, so proud of Grandma. She's doing (and looks) great. I start back to work part time, on Tuesdays only and Grandma (Kevin's mom) and Aunt Katie  come over and watch Ruby. They call it "Ruby's Tuesdays".

July- Ruby's first 4th! She spent it asleep while all the fireworks were going off. We spent it watching fireworks from the drive-way with a baby monitor strapped to us. This is also the month that we gave Albert away. He now has monogrammed sweaters he wears with his new parents, so again...he's doing great.

August- A jam-packed fun month! We had our church's youth camp, then a 15 hour road trip that landed us in FLORIDA! Ruby was a champ and blessed us all by being so good in the car. I couldn't believe it. (The trick is to leave at night and drive through the night because the baby will be sleeping then anyway.)
The only pic we got at camp...notice the bunk beds. We pushed our bunk beds together to make a king size bed.
And yes, we look like prison inmates in these orange camp shirts.
Keeping Ruby girl out of the Florida sun.
September- I have all four wisdom teeth removed (hallelujah) after some serious pain from one of them rotting. Lovely, isn't it? Ruby moves from sleeping in our bed with us every night to her own crib. So sad, but also a very good thing. She sleeps better now, and Kev and I get some actual alone time before bed! Ruby starts attending Baby Bookworm club (first time with buddy Elle Louise) and falls in love with it.

October- I always love this month. Ruby starts getting more serious about eating solid foods. Can you believe we took no pictures at a pumpkin patch this year?! I'm bummed about that, but there's always next year.
We have our first, of hopefully annual, family pictures taken by the talented Lauren Ames this month.
Also, Ruby girl starts cutting teeth and out pops two little whiteys down at the bottom. Also, we played dress up one day with a friend's old caterpillar costume.

We gave Clarence away but, like Homeward Bound, he will not allow anything to come between us and him. He acted like a lunatic at the new people's house and they had no other option but to give him back, crying because they fell in love with him. Clarence you little stinker. He's going to be in our family till the day the dies, and I've come to terms with that fact. To be completely honest, I've fallen back in love with the little guy.

November- Our family's big Thanksgiving is also our Christmas out at Nanny and Papa's. Ruby is such a people person, so events like this is heaven to her. My Papa surprised my Nanny with flying in my Uncle Ron (their son) and it was so sweet to capture the surprise.

December- What a month! Lots of things happened but all in all...it was wonderful. Our first Christmas with Ruby James. Last year at the time she was squirming in my belly and we had no idea what she looked like and we just talked and smiled at the thought of her being here for Christmas '10. And this year we laughed and smiled at the fact that she was here and made Christmas twenty times more fun.

2010 was a great year that absolutely just FLEW by. It's because we have a child now. The years are going by faster now, we have to soak it all in! I am so thankful to have my husband, my daughter, our health, our families, our home, our car that starts every time we get in, the food we eat everyday, the heating and air in our house, the jobs we have...I'm endlessly grateful.  It was a good, good year.
And 2011 is going to be even better:)

Haha! Oh geez.
