Have you Momma's been to this? It's here this week, just so you know, at John Q. Hammons. I'm new to this, but was glad I went. I am sooo not a "bargain shopper" or a fight-to-the-death type of shopper. I would rather pay an extra few dollars to buy it brand new, walk into a store, pick it up, and leave. I don't like the "hunt". Which is ironic because I'm so frugal...

Anyways, for the sake of saving money, I went tonight for an invite-only that my client gave me (thanks, Season!) and got some really good fall clothes for Ruby girl. There were tons of women there, but no fist fights or Jerry Springer-esque type of business. Good thing, too, or I would of high-tailed it out of there. Of course, I'll try to put up some pics of the clothes. Better yet, Ruby in the clothes:)

Next up on our family's very, very long "To Do" lists, well let's call it "Eventual To-Do" list is to paint our kitchen cabinets a creamy white and put knobs on it. Yes...our cabinets have no hardware on them, isn't that crazy?! These ease and convenience of having an actual handle to grab to open your cupboard should not be taken for granted, friends!

Here's kind of what we have in mind...

What were you doing 12 AM last night?
Sleeping of course/
I spent all of yesterday not on the internet. I went to bed the night before with websites, comments, photos, tags, web addresses, images, and on and on and on and on of just JUNK from being on the internet too much and too long and I needed a break. So I took one.

I have been attacked physically lately and I know it's a mirror image of the spiritual. Do you ever have that? Next time you're sick, ask Holy Spirit why and if you've stepped out of line/are being tested/etc. Sometimes you just are coming down with something, because we're humans on this earth and we get stuff, but sometimes it goes deeper than that, and this time, it went deeper than that.

Without all the details, I will just say this: with a week's worth of yuckiness, a night of unbearable pain that landed me in the emergency room (believe it or not...tooth related, which leads to your mouth, which leads to your whole head...very bad) and a morning of some more unexpected pain in another part of me, I realized I had been going about things in general all wrong lately. I had been doing everything by myself. On my own.

There is something (stupid) in me that says I can't enjoy life until everything is perfect.  Like the house, Ruby, our cars, the landscape, the groceries, the appointment book, our finances, laundry, and on and on. So I would strip myself of everything I had to physically do all of it on my own. And it's funny...I have made it so known and declared to heaven and earth that I am Yahweh's and He is mine and I have told Him over and over again how I am submitted to Him and we are one and so guess what? He held me accountable and just wouldn't let me get by with making myself miserable.
Thank you, Father.

I remember a long time ago Kevin and I asked Yahweh to make it to when we step away from Him and His flow of things, that we would "find ourselves in a miserable place". Those were our exact words. Because we don't want to do it without Him! I LOVE that when I step out of His blessing, I know immediately! Sometimes it takes me and week and some serious pain, but hey...I'll take it. It's worth it.

So this morning, I woke up feeling like a new person. Because I have laid it all at my Father's feet and have walked away. I love how this Kingdom thing works.

6 Months...

Our beautiful daughter...it seems like just yesterday those piercing blue eyes were only weeks old. Always bundled up in a little cuddly ball that was light and comfortable to hold for hours on end. And now that little ball is 16 lbs. and sitting up on her own. Sucking on cucumber slices, cracking up, developing her own fairly strong opinions. I literally can't get enough of her. We are buds forever and ever.
Happy 6 months tomorrow, Ruby James!

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Look what I got today!
Glass storage containers for refrigerator leftovers! No more nasty plastic ones poisoning our food!

Next purchase will be this stainless steel sippy cup with handles on it to help Ruby learn to grab onto something and hold and drink out of it. (Yes, she's started drinking water out of a sippy cup!) Then we'll switch her to this, then regular glass cups! (Once she's past her toddler/throwing things stage of course)

Then, I want a real silver spoon.

Silver has numerous benefits and is a huge immune system booster. I just read in my La Leche League book the other day to use real silver spoon to spoon feed your baby because even the little bit that touches their mouth and the food will benefit them. Isn't that cool?!

And last, but not least, I would like to make a (probably already obvious) announcement:

I am starting to hate plastic.

Too many weird bad things that they keep coming out with "oops, now we found this in plastic and it's bad for you..." and "this may also be harmful..."  Have you ever heard a news report on dangerous toxins in wood or glass or fabric? Me either.

So, of course, I am pretty serious about that when it comes to Ruby.
How cute are these little toys? With non-toxic paint, of course.

We are starting to little by little throw our plastic things in the recycling bin and out of our lives. Feels good!

Being A Girl Is Rough Sometimes

I've been thinking a lot lately. My au naturale ways tend to equal ugliness and that kind of sucks. I mean, I hate make-up because it is literally painting your face with only the Lord-knows-what. We've all heard that mascara is made with bat feces and that's just the tip of the iceburg. Do you know how they get that smooth, velvet-y texture on your skin for foundations? From the plant that collects roadkill, yes, dead animals and puts them all in a big vat and boils them. The substance that floats to the top (oils and fats from the animals) is scraped off and used in TONS of beauty products. Disgusting, isn't it?

Still, I can't help but shamefully admit that this:

Looks better than this:

So what's a girl to do? Stand for what I believe in and be a clog-wearing, turleneck sporting, pale Simpleton? Or completely hypocrite myself and look good?

I already know the answer (balance, Jessica, balance) but still...I want to hear from you:)

Movin' on Up

I had to take Clarence to the vet yesterday because he's been sick and needed something to stop the barf, please. And guess....who....we....ran...into....

Yes, Albert! What are the chances?! As he was getting into his new owners' Cadillac SUV, Dr. Parker and I looked out the window and watched him.

Dr. Parker said it perfectly..."looks like Albert's doin' alright".

Home at Last! Part II

We got to take a boat to an island called Shell Island. We were the only people on it that I could see and it was beautiful. Also, Ruby's first ocean water experience.

Ruby was happier than I've ever seen her. The face she is making in the picture with Kevin holding her up is the face she made non-stop in Florida.
(We think this is her "this pleases me" face).

More pictures of our trip to come!

Home at Last!

We have been in Florida for a week and a half now. For a wedding of our dear friends Kev sang in, meeting all sorts of new people and having tons of meals and good conversations with them, and then getting to stay at my in-laws condo for the latter part of the week...all so much fun. SO BUSY, but so fun. I have 400 something pictures to go through and I promise I will load more, but until then I leave you with this.
Nicest legs on the beach...

Clarence and Ruby

A sad thing happened in the Kiehn house this month. We had to give away Albert, the little guy on the right, because 2 dogs was just too much with a new baby and he was a bit more of a stinker than Clarence (left).

We loved Albie dearly and it was hard to see him go (we cried). But all in all we knew it was for the best. This was the last day I got to kiss and cuddle him.
So now, it's just our Clarence. The original. We got him after we had been married for 2 weeks. He's been there from the beginning and is the best dog ever.
And guess who LOVES it being just Clarence?
And guess who Clarence LOVES to play with now that Albert's gone?
She opens her mouth, loving every minute of it. Half gross, half adorable.

They are going to be buds her whole life.
