Today's dreary weather is appropriate for what I had to do today. Find number 7 on this list...now you know. I was literally fighting back tears (although some DID pool up in my eyes) as I took them all off of their hangers and into their bin to go up in the attic.
It was just so many tangible symbols of one of the sweetest, most precious, amazing time in my life and I had to face the fact that it was over. It will never be just me and Kevin anxiously awaiting our first baby...

Go Ruby!

I got out the camera today and snapped a few shots of our cutie.

See What We're Doing?

I knew that landfills existed, but because they are not spoken of frequently, I completely forgot about them. Kevin recently told me there was one in the Tontitown/Springdale area and the very thought of it made a knot in my stomach. Look what we are doing to our planet. This is our home, and look what we're doing.

Please, please, take steps towards being ecologically aware. Think of what we're setting up for our generations down the line.

Some EASY steps can be:

**Bring your own cloth bags to Walmart
**RECYCLE! Bentonville makes it easy for you, just stick it in the bin and they take it for you. SOO many things can be recycled-DO IT!
**When you buy foods that come in plastic containers-REUSE the containers! Make a project out of it with your kids! Get chalkboard paint, paint the container, and write whatever is in it in chalk. The container can be used over and over again!
**Instead of throwing things away, find a place to either donate them, a friend to give them to, a way to use them for other things, etc. The whole throwing-away-and-buying-even-more is what has gotten us in this landfill problem in the first place.
**Also, BUY LESS STUFF. Ask yourself "do I really need this? Will I consistently use this? Do I value buying it enough to have to find a purpose for it, and not just throw it away?"
**Stop buying aerosol cans. Hairspray can be bought (and just as good) in a pump bottle, and cleaning supplies...we've talked about this...VINEGAR! Just as powerful, waaaay better for the environment, and your family to breathe in!

Being environmentally conscience only makes sense! It is good for our planet, our home, AND saves us $money$, AND benefits our health and well being. So let's quit being lazy and take some small, hopefully leading to bigger, steps to take care of what we've been given!

I would just like to say...

that I love the Amish.
In my opinion, they've got it going on.
They live entirely off the earth.
They don't take in any pesticides or toxins or chemicals.
They are all about family and hard work.
They don't get involved in politics, social statuses, and the things of society.
They don't pollute.
AND they created Amish Friendship Bread.

Now, please imagine me singing "like Amish...I'd like to be like Amish" to the tune of "Like Mike"

delicious AND healthy!

Remember how I just blogged that I hadn't yet made dinner? Well, Ruby fell asleep in her bouncer and gave me a chance to! Thanks baby girl!
Anyways, it was sooo good! Skillet cooked chicken is not as good as grilled, but it sure is quicker!

Warm corn, crumbled turkey bacon, roma tomotoes, and red onions added...

Shred the chicken and toss with mixture of Worcestershire sauce and ketchup (who would have known? So delicious!) Toss salad together, top with chicken, parmesan cheese, and balsamic vinegarette dressing, and...voila!

You have yourself a very fresh, delicious salad!
(Love warm weather food!)

Today Ruby and I didn't really accomplish much other than getting one load of laundry folded and on hangers.
-But not put away or hung-
We went on a walk and burned some calories.
-But then came home and ate frosting out of the jar with a spoon-
I haven't showered today. I haven't started dinner yet. I haven't done any cleaning.

Normally this would bother me beyond description but you know what? It's just one of those days, and I'm totally OK with that.

Phone Pics

Here are some recent pics from my phone I thought I'd share. Sometimes phone pics are the best, because by the time you get out your real camera you miss the moment.

Miss Ruby loving her cloth diapers. She is very concerned about landfills and the toxins that are in disposables and wants to save the earth, one diaper at a time.
This is us on the way to church this morning.
Ruby listening to Apostle Todd preach.
The beloved Moby. Us girls walking on a trail. LOVING THIS SPRING WEATHER!
(don't these sunglasses look like the huge kind old people wear over their bifocals?)
Today was a big day for me because I wore HIGH HEELS. Not just any high heels, very tall and very RED high heels.
I told Kevin on the way to church "I don't feel like myself today" and he responded
"Whoever you are, you look hot."
haha, thanks honey:)

Saturday, April 17, 2010

I just wanna say...

I love this guy.
Spring is in the air and it's hitting us like ton of bricks.
{In a good way.}
We are taking care of unfinished projects, starting (and finishing!) new ones, and it feels amazing. I read a quote one time that said

"Think of the days that you lie down to sleep and think 'that was a good day'. They are always the ones where you worked hard and accomplished much, not sat around all day and did nothing"

I love that.

Because it's so, so, so true. I am a mover and a shaker and I LOVE a good hard day's work because of the sense of accomplishment at the end of it.
My sister Shannon sent me this link and I am in absolute awe of this couple. Check it out!

Ice Ice Baby

I wish the lighting was brighter. I was looking through our old videos and stumbled across
THIS GUY.
We were at a wedding reception and this man stood on the side the WHOLE TIME with his arms crossed, just watching people dance, not moving a muscle. When suddenly he heard the first riff of Ice Ice Baby, stepped onto the dance floor, and let loose. It's like he loves this song so much that he had to cancel any and all plans of not dancing because he can't say no to Vanilla.
One of the best moments of our lives....

p.s. now you all know Kevin's really excited/happy laugh.
Only comes out for really awesome occasions like this.

How Sweet!

This makes me so happy. I literally smiled so big when I found these just now. The other day Kev watched Ruby while I ran some errands and I guess they took these while I was gone.
I love you both dearly.

Got all my hair cut off today and I am loving it!!
Off my neck, no more horse reins for Ruby to pull!
No more annoying straggly hairs falling in my face while looking down and nursing!

This side's a little boyish. But it'll grow

Some old pics...

Me with brown hair, 2004
This is all for you, Shannon. Just wanted to give you a reason to feel really really good about yourself these days.

The annual first day of school picture. I think this was 9th grade for me. So why was I wearing such a Mom outfit? And Baylor?...You are a mid 40's year old Dad coaching his sons team here

My Senior year when I wore a shockingly inappropriate dress. Well it wasn't THAT bad, but it was low and behold.

Me when I was about Ruby's age, probably older. Does Ruby look ANYTHING like me?? Please? Anyone?

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Hi from Ruby and me!
She is getting downright hilarious. Smiling all the time and a hearty chuckle here and there.

I tasted my breastmilk today (is that weird?) and it was so sweet that it hurt my grown-up, 24 year old stomach.
Could this be why Ruby is now 11 lb. 4 oz.?
I think so!
We got our cloth diapers in and I just put her first one on her today. So cute and so funny! They are super cute because they are colorful but funny because they are big and bulky. Makes Ruby Roo have a big ole' bootay. The cutest hiney I've ever seen...

20

20 FACTS ABOUT MYSELF:

1. I have never bought a box of Kleenex in my life, nor do I ever plan to. (hello, toilet paper!)
2. I have never ran 2 consecutive miles, but would love to be able to one day. Soon, preferably.
3. I have been coloring my hair since 9th grade and probably always will. Unless I have stellar white hair when I'm old, no need in coloring that.
4. I moved out of the house at 18 so I could get a tattoo. Awesome.
5. I have never been outside of the US. Not Mexico, not Canada. Nothin'.
6. I hate mess and clutter with a passion.
7. I have always said being a stay at home Mom is my dream job, and I'll say it till the day I die.
8. I pray in the Spirit everyday of my life. Out loud, with Kevin, in the car, all the time. I love it.
9. I have a very big sweet tooth and I listen to it and give it what it wants.
10. I have had 5 root canals and 75% of my teeth have fillings in them. Even one of my front teeth. (see #9)
11. I want to have 3 kids.
12. I hate shaving my legs, and they usually only see a razor on birthdays and Christmas.
13. I have only read 3 chapter books my whole life, though I have started many.
14. I have governed my words in the past 3 years immensely. I used to say anything for shock value. Not anymore. Now I speak beautiful, edifying words.
15. I usually have an opinion on most things.
16. I always want to have wood floors in every house we own because it seems cleaner to me.
17. I am leery towards technology. I love pens and paper, the good ole days.
18. I know pretty much every line to every episode of King Of Queens.
19. I never ever ever want to have cable television in our home. Ever.
20. I panic if we run out of milk. I love cereal so, so much. In fact...I'm going to have some right now.

I want to hear 2o facts about YOU!

Oh, Motherhood (Part 2)

Q: When is a very inconvenient time to hear your baby crying from her crib after waking up from a nap, thus needing you immediately?

A: While you are in the middle of waxing something...anything

Fortunately, this turned out to be the best brow wax I've ever had. I finally got the arch I could never seem to nail on my own eyebrows. Thanks Ruby!

To Cloth Or Not To Cloth

I have been considering cloth diapering for a while now. Since I had a few boxes of diapers I thought "well, I've got some time to decide"
Those boxes went quickly. We are dwindling down towards the ends of them and it's decision making time.
There are lists and lists of the benefits of cloth diapering, and only ONE benefit of disposables: convenience.

So it really boils down to asking myself this question:
Would I rather save a lot of money, be better on the environment, better on baby's skin, etc and sign up for a lot more work...or spend a lot of money for a very justifiable convenience?

I DON'T KNOW!!!!

Girls Rule, Boys Drool

I was laying in bed this morning looking at Ruby and realized (for the thousandth time) just how lucky and happy I am to have a little girl.
I will be STOKED when we have a little Mister, don't get me wrong. In fact, I think our next one will be a boy for sure. But there is just something about my little Ruby that we're both girls and will always have the Mother/Daughter bond that is so irreplaceable.

Daddy LOVES when she dresses girly. He even asks "does she have like a bow or a headband we could put on?" when getting ready for church. (never saw THAT coming!)
But I think she is like me. Girly, sure, but not over the top by any means.
When we put super girly stuff on her, it just doesn't look right and we end up taking it off. That's exactly how I am when I'm getting dressed.

Fashion rule #1- if you are uncomfortable wearing it and don't feel like "you" TAKE IT OFF!!
So here's our perfect balance. Girly, and adorable if I do say so myself...but certainly not over the top.
How PERFECT is this little knit penguin Ruby's cousins (well, my cousins) sent her!
I dare say, this is one of my absolute top favorite gifts we've received for her.
ALL THE WAY FROM LONDON!!
This had to pass customs, had 20 pounds written on it instead of our boring dollars, and the mail was "Royal Air"...
how fancy, Ruby Girl!

We have 3 computers (I know) in which we are very thankful for. We don't have them because we're computer junkies, we have 2 laptops, one for me and one for Kevin when he was on the road touring all the time so we could communicate other than phone only. And then we have an Apple desktop for Kevin to mix/record with. All 3 computers have different pictures on them. I was looking through some of the Mac's old pics and just had to share...
